Most plants run the cloud subscription — it’s live in days and the right default for almost everyone. For larger fleets, and for plants whose contracts or IT policy prohibit off-site production data, we deploy the complete system inside your firewall instead. Same product, same dashboards, either way — pick the one that fits your plant.

SaaS is the simpler default for almost every plant. On-premise exists for the real cases that need it — both are the same ThingConnect, not a stripped-down variant.

When it's the right call
Four real reasons plants ask for on-premise
- Customer contracts — defense, aerospace, some automotive OEMs — explicitly prohibit production data leaving the site.
- Corporate IT policy requires all operational systems inside the firewall, full stop.
- The fleet is large enough that owning the infrastructure beats subscribing to hosting.
- The network is deliberately air-gapped, and monitoring has to live within it.

Yes. Same dashboards, same machine monitoring, OEE, downtime, and tool-life features. What changes is where it runs and how it's priced — not what it does.
Plants with a contractual or IT-policy reason production data can't leave the site, fleets large enough that owning the infrastructure beats subscribing to hosting, or a deliberately air-gapped network. For almost everyone else, the cloud subscription is the simpler, faster, and cheaper way to run the same product.
